I was a HUGE Madonna fan growing up. The longevity of her career is in part to her constant reinvention. I get it, you have to do that to stay in the game for 30 + years. While the “new ” Madonna is not my cup of tea, I can respect her drive and ambition to try and stay relevant. After last nights VMA’s, Miley Ray Cyrus has been dubbed “the new material girl” which couldn’t be further from the truth. She reinvents herself every other week and changes her circle of friends just as much. Is that talent or a bad trip?
What did you think of her “performance” on the VMA’s? Is it a fair comparison? I’m curious to see what Mike Shelton thinks…
PSA: DO NOT…I REPEAT DO NOT LISTEN TO HER NEW FREE ALBUM. YOUR EARS WILL BLEED IF YOU ARE OVER 30 AND DRUG FREE.
And alittle reminder of how DOPE Madonna (as an old lady) is although I did like “Wrecking Ball”

I wish she would keep that nasty whale tongue in her mouth.
YES ACUFF. YASSSSSSSSSSS
We don’t want to see her tongue anymore! It’s played out already!! Never cared for her anyway!!!
The comparison to Madonna is ridiculous. Madonna does it every few years. She does it every couple of days.
And she sounds like a man!!!
hahaha BUT I did like wrecking ball
Me too! #shhhdonttellanyone
hahahah my lips are sealed cuz

Most men at some point or another deal with sexually charged visuals that create lust issues and it affects their fellowship with Jesus…. Anytime I see Myley Cyrus it has the opposite reaction on me… It makes me want to run into the arms of Jesus and repent for things I haven even done…..
I don’t like her and I don’t get what anyone sees in her.
That was both funny…and honest. Now everyone commenting is over the age of 30. She has a HUGE following. My grandma and probably my mom didn’t like Madonna but I did. Is it that she is unapologetic about who she is OR just confused and mostly high…you know my answer but I’m asking you as a dad of teens. What do they think???
My daughter is very very much into all the usual suspects, One Direction to Ariana Grande, Megan Traynor (sp?) to Beyoncé…. She honestly feels a little (or a lot) lied to…. She was a RABID Hanna Montana fan….. She has totally (proactively) disavowed her
I could be totally wrong but the difference between Madonna and her (like you’ve so eloquently stated) is that Madonna used to reinvent herself from project to project or every few years… But people like Miley and even Lady Gaga change their images no differently and no deeper than their wardrobe… And frankly, being that everyone is doing the same thing… To me they just come across as cheap imitations set to some producer’s over produced backing track…
Having said this, I have no doubt that in the mid-80s some father of a teenage girl was saying the mid-80s version of what I’m saying here right now about Madonna LOL
LOL right! I think you hit the nail on the head. But with our fast paced society are artists just trying to keep up? I mean all we had was MTV and had to wait for a certain time for a certain video ya know. Now with social media and dvd paparazzi etc artists have to change at a faster rate. I am by no means standing in the gap for Miley but society and the way things are basically made her. I don’t know. We just need a zombie apocalypse to happen and then all will be right in the world again;)
